Learning Outside the Box.
When we think of schooling children most often, we resort to pencils and paper. While I’m most definitely not against a good worksheet I do know how tiresome it gets when our children do not want to sit still. So, I try my best to incorporate some fun into learning. Playdough has proven to be successful in both learning and fun.
Choosing colors
We all love primary colors, and it is so fun to see a child’s face light up when they realize mixing blue and yellow makes green. You will add fun and more learning with incorporating color addition. If you have multiple age groups in your home allow the older kids to teach the younger children here. They absolutely love to lead and teach when they feel confident in a situation.
Playing with playdough
With littles it is so fun to let them use a rolling pin and some cookie cutters. you can add in extra learning by using some ABC, numbers, or shape cookie cutters. This is so engaging for toddlers, and they really learn by playing. Also squishing playdough strengthens the muscles needed to write. I highly encourage playdough for preschool age children.
Making play dough
while younger children will need help in this area, I’m sure many older kids are able to follow a simple playdough recipe. measuring cups are a great way to introduce young children to the idea of fractions without overwhelming them. the older children will benefit in seeing that fractions are useful in the real world.
